Ohio Fair Housing Protected Classes Under ORC 4112
Ohio Revised Code 4112, the Ohio Fair Housing Act, prohibits housing discrimination based on:
- Race
- Color
- Religion
- Sex
- National Origin
- Disability
- Familial Status
- AncestryOhio-specific
- Military StatusOhio-specific
Federal Fair Housing Law (Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968) protects the first seven classes listed above. Ancestry and military status are Ohio-specific additions under ORC 4112.
How to File a Fair Housing Complaint
If you believe you have been the subject of housing discrimination in Ohio, you may file a complaint with:

Complaints must generally be filed within one year of the alleged violation. You may file with both agencies simultaneously.
